Shane Handy is entering his season on the Tiger coaching staff as defensive coordinator and also will coach the defensive backs.
Originally from Randleman, N.C., Handy graduated from Guilford College in 1992. Handy played defensive back for four years at Guilford and won a conference championship in 1991. He also played centerfield on the Guilford baseball team, leading the squad to a 1992 conference title. Handy went on to complete his Master’s degree at Delta State University in 1996.
Handy coordinated the defense and coached linebackers for four years at Catawba (N.C.) College. The Indians made playoff appearances in 2002 and 2004 and won the South Atlantic Conference title in 2003.
This will not be Handy’s second season in the GSC. Catawba played GSC schools in the playoffs in recent years, and Handy also coached for Knight on the Delta State staff in 1993 and 1995.
Shane and his wife Monica have two children, Jake and Madelyn.
