Gabe Carter begins his first season on the Ouachita Baptist University coaching staff.

Carter, who grew up in Caddo Gap, comes to Ouachita Baptist as the former assistant coach at Olney Central College in Olney, Ill. Prior to Olney, Carter served as Graduate Assistant Coach at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, La. During his time at Northwestern State, the Demons captured back-to-back Southland Conference Championships, a Southland Conference Tournament title and an NCAA Tournament victory.

This past summer, Carter coached the Pump-N-Run Elite AAU team based in Los Angeles, Calif. He is a graduate of Arkansas State University, where he was a student assistant for men’s basketball and an assistant coach at Buffalo Island Central High School under coach Bill Taylor.

Carter, who is the son of John and Marsha Carter, prepped at Caddo Hills High School where he was four-year baseball letterman and a three-year basketball letter winner. He was the only player on the team to start every game his senior year and was also an all-district baseball performer that season.

Carter has one sister and one brother who reside in Hot Springs and Little Rock, respectively.
