Betsy Danner,
Women Tennis Coach
Betsy Danner has been the women's tennis coach at
Ouachita Baptist University since 1993 and has made the Lady Tigers
tennis team a perennial power among NCAA Division II programs. Her
players excel in both the classroom and on the courts winning both
athletic and academic honors. Danner has coached numerous
All-Gulf South Conference players, All-Americans and ITA
Scholar-Athletes during her tenure.
Danner's career has been highlighted by being named the
Wilson/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division II National Coach of
the Year for the 2003 season. Danner coached
Ouachita to a 21-0 regular season record, a Gulf South Conference
championship that was the school’s first in any sport since joining the
league in 2000, and the program’s second consecutive berth in the NCAA
Women’s Tennis National Championships. The Lady Tigers reached the
round of 16 before ending the season with a spectacular 26-1 overall
record. Over the three-year stretch from 2001-2004, the Lady Tigers
became a fixture in the national Top 10 poll among NCAA Division II
women's tennis programs.
Danner
is a 4.0 level USTA League tennis player. Her players excel in both
the classroom and on the courts winning both athletic and academic
honors. In addition to her responsibilities with her varsity women's
tennis team, Danner also has taught private lessons for nearly two
decades. In addition to her coaching duties, Danner serves as an adjunct
instructor in Ouachita's Department of Kinesiology.
Danner has coached at both the high school
and college levels in the sports of tennis, swimming, and
volleyball. She holds a bachelor of science in education degree
(1973) from Ouachita and a Master of Science in education diploma (1978)
from Henderson State University.
